Willard Jay Smithson, 73, of Taylor passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017, after a long battle with illness. A viewing will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, at Silver Creek Mortuary, 745 Paper Mill Road in Taylor. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Reed Hatch Memorial Cemetery in Taylor.
He was born July 20, 1943, in Llano, Texas.
While growing up, he lived in Holbrook; he also lived in Mesa.
At the age of 18 he served his country in the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam Era in Georgia and Germany.
After boot camp, he married Charlotte Ann Perkins and they just celebrated their 55th anniversary.
During his working years, he worked as a cement finisher and as a storeroom clerk at the paper mill.
He especially enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Ann Smithson; his children, Richard Dale (Laurie) Smithson, Brenda Jaylene (Chester) Jackson, Sherri Ann (Sterling) Warden, Steven Layne (Danyelle) Smithson and Raymus Caddo.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Candi LaDawn Smithson, and a son, Ramo Caddo.
