Joseph City had to wait until Saturday to begin the 2018 portion of their schedule, but the wait paid off with a 46-38 road win in Flagstaff against the Basis Yeti.
The Wildcats built a three point first period lead then doubled that margin by the half. In the third they extended the lead to double digits before getting outscored down the stretch in the fourth.
Jacobson Begay and Matt Fields each led the team in scoring with 15 apiece. Fields added 10 boards to his performance. KJ Kinlicheenie netted 8; Jay Edwards, 4; Seth Hutchens and Rance Haddox each helped with 2.
Joseph City made five of 14 three-point attempts and went 11 for 14 at the charity stripe.
After hosting a struggling Mayer team ranked last in 1A on Tuesday, the No. 3 Wildcats will play at rival Mogollon on Friday against the 17th ranked Mustangs. On Saturday, Joseph City welcomes in No. 24 Grand Canyon. Next Tuesday, they will have a return match up when they host the 33rd ranked Yeti from Basis school in Flagstaff.
The Wildcats entered this week with an overall record of 12-6 and they are 6-1 in power point contests.
