Wildcats need solid wins this week to advance to state

Joseph City has five matches remaining in the regular season volleyball schedule and all will be played on their home floor this week.  After hosting Cibecue in a double header on Tuesday they will host Grand Canyon in another double-header on Thursday.  Their final regular season match will be on Friday when they host Williams.

The Wildcats entered this week ranked 18th in the 1A rankings after losing three matches played last week.  On Tuesday they fell on the road at Mayer dropping both double-header matches 3-0, and 3-1.  Joseph City fell 25-4, 25-12 and 25-16 in the first match. Haley Edwards led in kills with 6, followed by Arianna Kissling with 4, and Leigh Neal had 3.

Match two also went to Mayer, although Joseph City won the first game 25-22.  Mayer won the next three 25-21, 26-24 and 25-13. Edwards played well finishing with 14 kills. Kinsley Lampsa had 8, and Neal added 7. Lampsa served well with five aces.

On Friday the Wildcats welcomed in rival Mogollon and fell to the visitors in three games.

If Joseph City can finish inside the top sixteen in the standings by the close of this week they have a chance to advance to the 1A state tournament. In order for that to happen they will need to win the majority of their final five matches played this week.
