The monthly Snowflake Unified School District No. 5 Governing Board meeting was held on Feb. 8. Just over a dozen people were in attendance. Board President Carole Owens, Vice President Cory Johnson and board member Charles Foote were present. There were only a few items on the agenda that the board needed to address.
The district recently began the process of updating their website. The website will have a new look and will also comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) requirements. The website must meet the needs of those with disabilities.
District Secretary Tohna Rogers is spearheading the project and addressed the board asking for approval to move forward with the ADA compliance portion of the project. “If someone has some type of issue that we are not aware of; they can go to this page (on the website) and fill out a document. Then we send it into Schoolmasters and then they go in and make the website more compliant for that handicap,” said Rogers. The website should be in ADA compliance in six weeks. The board approved this item.
District Business Manager Mark Ollerton indicated that the contract with the current audit service that performs annual audits for the district has run out. Ollerton requested approval from the board to procure audit services for the future. That item was approved by the board.
The Snowflake High School FFA chapter presented information to the board on the upcoming Ag Education Day they will be holding on Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Taylor Rodeo Grounds. FFA members have been making the rounds to all local council meetings to invite the community to the first local event of its kind. They are hoping to educate the community on how important agriculture is to this area. The event is from 3 to 8 p.m. and includes dinner, games, a hayride, music, dancing, petting zoo and demonstration by FFA members.
The next regular monthly board meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, in the district office conference room located at 682 School Bus Lane in Snowflake.
