As a part of its 40th anniversary year, the Holbrook Painted Desert Kiwanis Club is sponsoring a special event at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Catholic Family Life Center in Holbrook. It’s called Some Enchanted Evening, a song from the musical South Pacific. It will be a night of music and dessert, featuring some of Holbrook’s best musicians performing selections from musicals across the decades.
“We’re very excited about this opportunity to share some of Holbrook’s incredible talent with the community, and raise some significant dollars for a good cause,” commented Kiwanian Jeff Johnson, organizer of the event. “For forty years our club has blessed Holbrook, and specifically our children, in myriad ways–and this is but a continuation of that tradition.” All proceeds from Some Enchanted Evening will go toward the Kiwanis’ scholarship fund, which annually helps four to six students continue their education at the college level.
This event will feature eight to 10 numbers, including solos, duets and ensembles, from classical musicals (The Sound Of Music, The King And I, Oklahoma, Man of La Mancha, West Side Story, Mary Poppins) to the more contemporary (Newsies, Annie, High School Musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast). An intermission will be held during which a delicious dessert will be served, along with a beverage. The second act will feature another eight to 10 performers and the evening will end with an audience participating singalong.
Tickets are $25 per person, with all proceeds going to the club’s scholarship fund. Tickets are available from any Kiwanian or by contacting Johnson at 524-2718 (work), (928) 421-9061 (cell) or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Quality performers are still being sought for the program.
