The Snowflake Men’s Club and Women’s Club wrapped up their summer golf season with a two-person scramble tournament and awards banquet Sept. 30 at the Snowflake Golf Course. The mixed couples scramble was won by Jerry Nord and Barb Bayer. The men’s scramble winners were Don Ottmann and Howard Gourley.
Awards were presented for a variety of tournaments staged over the summer. This year the 36-Hole Club Championship was won by Glynn Gordon of Snowflake. Other tournament winners included Ellsworth Match Play champion Steve Krasovetz, and President’s Cup winner Merle Hoagland. The summer long Round Robin Match Play tournament was won by Don Ottmann, also of Snowflake.
Raffle items for the banquet were donated by a wide variety of local businesses and golf courses. Contributors included Home Depot, Walmart, IGA, Ace Hardware, Dr. Woodside, Haralson Tire, Big O Tires, Hatch Motors of Snowflake, Los Corrales in Pinetop, Romo’s Café in Holbrook, the Fudge Shop at Shevell’s, Trapper’s, Pinetop Lakes Golf Course, Silver Creek Golf Course, Bison Golf Course, Arizona Traditions Golf Course in Surprise and Golf Liquidator in Lakeside.
Snowflake Men’s Club members come from all around the White Mountains. The cost to join is $50 a year, which includes access to the Arizona Golf Association’s handicap system. Men’s Club Vice President Tom Black, describes the club’ membership as “a great group of guys who enjoy friendly competition and camaraderie. It’s all about having fun!”
Golf now moves into the fall and winter season. Because of the milder winters in Snowflake, golfers are normally able to play through the year with few weather interruptions.
The Snowflake Men’s Club plays at 9 a.m. every Thursday during the spring and summer months. In November, the start time shifts to 10 a.m. Wednesday afternoons start time is at 1 p.m. The golf course hosts a 9-Hole Walking Wednesday competition open to any golfers with a current handicap.
