Snowflake Council OKs backhoe purchase

By Linda Kor

The Snowflake Town Council held a brief meeting July 18 to address two items.

The council gave its approval to the purchase of a 2017 Case 580SN backhoe for $97,578 under the Minnesota state contract. The town has budgeted $100,000 this fiscal year for the purchase of a new backhoe for the public works department, as the current main backhoe is 11 years old.

The lowest of three bids came from Titan Machinery for a Case backhoe for $90,433 plus tax and that bid was approved. Another bid from Titan Machinery was for the same backhoe with additional options for $97,688 and a third bid from Empire Machinery was for a Caterpillar backhoe for $99,801.

The council also gave approval for work to be done on Rutledge Drive and Industrial Way. Pavement improvements will be made, primarily at the intersection.

The next meeting of the council is scheduled at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8, at town hall, located at 81 W. First South.
