SHS soccer squads see plenty of action

By Greg Perkins

The Snowflake Lady Lobo soccer team split two matches played last week with an 0-2 loss at St. Johns on Tuesday followed by a 2-1 win at Page on Thursday.

In Tuesday’s loss to the Lady Redskins, Snowflake battled St. Johns to a scoreless halftime tie, then gave up two goals in the second half. The Lady Lobos certainly had their chances with 18 shots on goal. Credit the St. Johns keeper with turning them all away to keep Snowflake off the scoreboard. Lady Lobo goalie Emily Rolow played well, rejecting 15 of St. Johns’ 17 shots on goal in the loss.

The Lady Lobos came up short Aug. 29 in Chino Valley. They played to a 1-1 tie through the first half, but went scoreless in the second while giving up two Lady Cougar goals to fall in the match  3-1.

Talitha Brown scored Snowflake’s lone goal. The Lady Lobos had nine shots on goal, but just the one found the mark. Rolow turned away 14 of 17 Chino Valley shot attempts.

This week the Lady Lobos will play four matches in the Show Low Tournament, facing Show Low and Northland Prep on Friday, Sept. 15, followed by matches against Chino Valley and Round Valley on Saturday, Sept. 16.

The Snowflake boys’ team managed only four shot on goal attempts last Wednesday against a very good Blue Ridge team in a 4-0 shutout loss.

The Lobos played host to Chino Valley Aug. 29 and they were shut out by the visiting Cougars, 5-0. They bounced back two days later with a 2-1 road win at Desert Christian.

The Snowflake squad will host Northland Prep today (Sept. 13), then travel to Holbrook on Saturday, Sept. 15.
