Salsa competition is planned at fair

A Fresh Homemade Salsa Competition will be held during the Navajo County Fair.

The competition is open to county residents aged 13 and older and includes two categories, mild and hot. A prize will be awarded to the People’s Choice winner in each category.

Entries must be received by 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, in the Open Class Building. One quart of fresh, not canned, hot or mild salsa is required for each entry. The entry fee is $3 per category.

Members of the public will purchase a bag of chips for $1 and judge the salsa between 3 and 5 p.m. on Sept. 16.

Prizes include a gift certificate provided by Jalapeno Café in Show Low, a gift certificate to Romo’s Restaurant in Holbrook provided by Deanne Romo and gift baskets provided by Lynda Young.
