The ribbon cutting for Hulet Elementary School’s new Don’t Quit Fitness Center will be celebrated from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the George Gardner Performing Arts Center on the Holbrook High School campus.
Jake Steinfeld, chairman of the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils, dignitaries and students will cut the ribbon. A proclamation from Governor Doug Ducey setting aside October as Don’t Quit Fitness Month will be shared and students will provide a fitness demonstration.
During Fitness Month, families and communities are encouraged to renew their commitment to making physical activity and healthy eating part of our children’s daily lives.
Hulet School was one of three Arizona schools selected as a National Fitness Champion earlier this year for demonstrating new and innovative ways to promote student physical activity and wellness. The other two winning schools were Hollinger K-8 School in Tucson and Stanfield Elementary School.
Each fitness center is financed through public/private partnerships with companies like Coca-Cola, The CareMore Foundation and Nike, and does not rely on taxpayer dollars or state funding. Additionally, TuffStuff Fitness International provides all of the fitness equipment. The foundation’s goal is to build a nation of the fittest, healthiest kids in the world.
