With the calendar turning to winter it is time for high school sports fans to head to the gym. In Snowflake they will be looking for solid outings from both the boys and girls basketball teams this season. The boys team coached by Andy Wood is coming off a 12-19 regular season mark last year. This year’s team will have height and experience enough to give east region foes a tough test.
The boys team will open their season on Nov. 28, when they host Chinle. Dec. 1 and 2 they will be active at the Red Rock Hoops Classic where the team expects to play at least six games. The Lobos will return to regular season action on Dec. 5, when they host Tuba City.
The Lady Lobos coached by Don Godfrey are coming off a 20-14 campaign from a year ago. They lost some key seniors but like most area teams they have reloaded for this season. The girls team will have began their season at the Queen Creek Tournament on Nov. 20 and 21. They will host Chinle on Nov. 28 in what will begin their regular season schedule. Like the boys team they will welcome in Tuba City on Dec. 5.
Players currently listed on the Lady Lobo roster include seniors, Emily Ballard, Nikita Olms, Bailee Flake and Camaria Reidhead; juniors include Kaylee Coplan, Shelby Larson, Tally Lyman and Aubree Cardon; two sophomores, including Heather Whipple and Taryn Flake; and freshmen will include, Tristan Hancock and Marynda Caldwell on the roster.
