Wanda Faye Connolly entered into eternal rest in the care of family on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, in Holbrook. Wanda was born on July 25, 1923, to Martin Frances Doze and Mary Martha Widman.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, at the LDS Stake Center in Holbrook, preceded by a viewing from 10 to 10:45 a.m. in the Relief Society room.
Wanda grew up in Kingman, Kan., where she completed high school. During World War II her future husband was stationed in the area while in the army. They dated and where later married, then within a year their first child was born, Janet Elaine. Later Roger Martin was born. After they moved to Arizona, Steven Dwayne came into the family. Last of all, Joseph Elwood arrived on special holiday to complete the family.
After the three older children had joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wanda and Joseph were baptized on Joseph’s eighth birthday. She loved working in her church callings. She worked most of her life as a sales clerk or waitress. Her first love passed away and preceding in death by almost 44 years. She was later married to her second husband Roland Connolly and enjoyed several good years with him while they lived in Holbrook and Alaska until his passing.
She had many friends. She helped in Operation Love at the Baptist Church across the street from her house up until four weeks before death. She continued working in the church as long as she could. She also cherished her 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren until she passed.
She is survived by her children, Janet Towers of Prescott Valley; Roger Slade of Eagle Mountain, Utah; Joseph Slade of Holbrook; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lloyd Slade; second husband, Roland Connolly; son, Steven Slade; great-grandson, Dillon Speece; brothers, Rudolph, Floyd and Robert; and sisters Reeta, Dorothy, Hilda, Ella, Mae and Glenna.
Silver Creek Mortuary in Taylor handled the arrangements.
