Lady Wildcats win two, lose two in tournament

By Greg Perkins

Participating in the Yvonne Johnson Memorial Tournament hosted by Camp Verde on Friday, Dec. 29, and Saturday, Dec. 30, the Lady Wildcats earned a split in their four games with both wins coming against Ash Fork/Seligman, which have now combined for one team for this season.

The Lady Cats opened the tournament on Friday with a 50-18 loss to the host team Camp Verde Lady Cowboys. Later on Friday, they won their first meeting with Ash Fork’s Spartans by a final of 46-37.

Saturday morning Joseph City fell to Chino Valley 39-16, but bounced back with another win over Ash Fork 40-18.

Joseph City’s Lady Wildcats are now 4-14 on the season with three of those four victories coming against Ash Fork. In power point contests the Lady Cats sit at 1-6, leaving them ranked 34th at the beginning of the second half of the season. If they have any hopes of reaching the post season they will have to have a highly successful month of January in order to climb into the top sixteen in the standings.

That busy month of action began on Jan. 4 when they played at Northland Prep in Flagstaff.  On Jan. 9 they will host Mayer.
