Jean Gibson Simmons passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, in Gilbert after a short battle with leukemia. The funeral will immediately follow at 10 a.m. Interment will be at the Mike Ramsay Cemetery in Snowflake.
She was born Nov. 3, 1953, to Rex F. and Ruby L. Gibson in Snowflake.
Jean was a Snowflake native, but left for 26 years to follow her husband in his military career. Family was always important to her and provided a solid foundation in all of her years of wandering away from home. She knew and loved her family history, and found strength in the stories of her ancestors. Everywhere she lived she made friends easily and always made those friends feel like family. She always had an open place in her heart and home for people who didn’t have much family of their own. Always up for an adventure, she lived life to the fullest.
She was Snowflake Junior High School’s front office secretary for many years. She loved her job and enjoyed being the school “grandma.” She was an amazing woman.
Survivors include her husband, Orren Simmons; her siblings Terry Reu, Jim and Diane Gibson, and Debbie and Dennis Thatcher; her children, Jennifer and Jack Roach, Audie and Candice Whipple, Corky and Morgan Whipple, Jolene and Scott Cypher, and Julie and Adam Reinking; and her grandchildren, Carli and Rosemary Roach, Blaise, Peyton and Connor Whipple, Gracey, Emily, Janie and Caroline Whipple, and Bradley and Tyson Reinking.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Leon Reu.
