JCHS cross country runners compete in Prescott, Flagstaff

Joseph City’s cross country team was in Prescott last Saturday to compete in the Ray Wherley Invitational.

The Wildcats fared well in the lower level races at the event. In the boys’ Novice race, Jacob Bushman finished fourth with a time of 20:09.16. In the girls’ Novice race, Katrina Heaton finished second with a time of 24:18.97. Kayla Parra was 14th in 27:58.69.

In the Junior/Senior Open race, Talon Smith placed first with a time of 18:05.69. Kaden Moss was 20th and Kovascics Kinlicheenie was 23rd.  In the girls’ open race, Kaylie Gardner captured first place with a time of 23:48.35.

Several Joseph City runners competed at the Peaks Invitational meet held Sept. 2 in Flagstaff.

The Wildcat boys placed 10th in the 5,000 meter Ascent division with 215 team points. Talon Smith paced the team, placing fifth with a time of 18:21.82. Jacob Bushman was 28th; Kaden Moss, 54th; Kovascics Kinlicheenie, 59th; and Christian Williams, 79th.

In the girls’ junior varsity event, Kaylie Gardner finished 18th with a time of 26:12.07 and teammate Katrina Heaton was 38th.

In the 2.2-mile novice division, Kayla Parra placed 12th with a finishing time of 19:55.59.
