Holbrook harriers run at Alchesay

Holbrook’s cross country teams were the only local teams competing at the Alchesay Invitational meet held last Friday afternoon in Whiteriver.

Six boys’ teams competed in the meet, with Chinle taking first place with 34 team points. Hopi was second, followed by Alchesay, Holbrook, Blue Ridge and Show Low.

On the girls’ side, six teams were in action, with Chinle easily making it a double by winning the team title with 25 points. Hopi was second, followed by Alchesay, Blue Ridge, Show Low and Holbrook.

Leading the way for the Holbrook Roadrunners was Diyanii Yazzie, who placed 14th in the 44-runner field with a time of 19:03.48 over the 3.1-mile course. Damien Johnson finished 21st; Travis Tsosie, 31st; Hayden Mike, 35th; Emmanuel Yellowhair, 37th; Michael Begaii 38th; and Kyen Attakai, 43rd.

Kiah Demuth paced the Lady Roadrunners with a 23rd place finish in the 42-runner field in a time of 25:52.82. Ellie Smith was 25th; Ciara Spencer, 27th; Jordan Platero, 37th; Anna Smith, 39th; Rebecca Smith, 40th; and Tristen Ambrose, 42nd.
