Gabriel M. Chavez, 77, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017, in Mesa. Holy Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, at Madre de Dios Catholic Church in Winslow, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Desert View Cemetery.
He was born April 24, 1940, to Ysidro and Amada Chavez in Winslow.
Gabriel served in the U.S. Army.
He loved fishing, hunting, carpentry, music and being with family, and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine S. Chavez; two sons, Steven Y. Chavez and Patrick Herrera Sr.; three daughters, Katherine Echoles, Darlene Bonds and Veronica DeSpain; three sisters, Olympia Chavez, Vangie Gallegos and Patricia Chavez; three brothers, Bobby Chavez, Pete Chavez and Johnny Joyce; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ysidro Chavez; his mother, Amada Chavez; three brothers, Vele Chavez, Raymond Chavez and Joseph Chavez; and a grandson, Brandon R. Chavez.
Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
