Dixie V. Flake Caldwell passed away Feb. 5, 2018, in her home at Snowflake.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, in the Snowflake LDS Main Street Chapel and at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the R.V. Mike Ramsay Cemetery.
Dixie was born Nov. 16, 1933, to Virgil Maeser and Gerda Hendrickson Flake in Snowflake. Dixie graduated from Snowflake High School and Brigham Young University. She was an accomplished cellist, receiving musical scholarships from Arizona State University and BYU.
On Dec. 20, 1954, she married James Dahl Caldwell, in the Mesa LDS temple. They are the parents of nine children. The first six were born in six different states. Their children include, Clay (Susan), Mark (Marsha), Jill (Kim), Jackie (Elden), Bret (Shelley), Janet (deceased), Julie (Darrell), Ben (Brenda) and Tom (Angie).
Dixie was known for having no pretenses, and her fun loving personality and wit. Dixie was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served with Jim over the Denver, Colorado, mission and later they served a mission in Germany.
Dixie and Jim were blessed, along with their nine children, 41 grandchildren and 71 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by a son-in-law, daughter, grandson, two great grandsons and three brothers.
Silver Creek Mortuary of Taylor handled the arrangements.
