Members of the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) had a busy day Dec. 19 as they located and recovered two separate drug shipments traveling on Interstate 40 near Holbrook.

The first shipment of recovered drugs was 84 pounds of hydroponic marijuana. Two women, Kiu Ung, 43, and Theresa Ung, 49, both of Sacramento, Calif., were arrested.

Kiu Ung informed deputies that she was transporting the marijuana around on a sightseeing trip and it was just for her personal use, but deputies believe that may not be entirely accurate. The marijuana has a street value of $336,000.

Both women were booked into the Navajo County Jail in Holbrook on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale and transportation of marijuana for sale.

The second arrest occurred about an hour later when the TEU located approximately 8.8 pounds of cocaine inside the trunk of a vehicle.    The street value of the cocaine is about $400,000.

Cruz Margo, 39, of Rio Rancho, N.M., was arrested and booked into the county jail on charges of possession of dangerous drugs for sale, transportation of dangerous drugs for sale and possession of dangerous drugs.

The Navajo County TEU includes a sergeant and three deputies, one of whom is a reserve deputy donating his time. They are fully committed to making Navajo County a safer place to live, work and play.
