Deadline approaching for computer science education grant for rural schools

Arizona’s education ranking improved by one in 2017, still placing the state in the 44th spot for education, according to Education Week. Verizon is partnering with Project Lead The Way (PLTW) to bring high-quality computer science education to middle schools across the state of Arizona. This is a great opportunity for communities to stand behind learning at a time when it’s truly needed.

Schools that meet eligibility requirements can apply for one of a number of $20,000 grants which will go towards funding high-quality, hands-on computer science curriculum and teacher training. It’s all part of an $8 million commitment from Verizon to ensure students are developing the knowledge, skills, and career awareness for today’s technology-based economy.

Public, charter, private and faith-based schools are eligible to apply for one of the grants as long as more than 70 percent of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Visit pltw.org/ for more information on these grant opportunities. The deadline to submit an application is Dec. 15.
