Concho man drowns at Scott Reservoir

A Concho man was the victim of an accidental drowning last week at Scott Reservoir in the Pinetop-Lakeside area.

At 6:51 p.m. on Monday, July 10, the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a call of a possible drowning near the boat ramp at Scott Reservoir.

Deputies responded and found citizens searching an area of the lake where the swimmer was last seen before going under water. They joined in the search and were assisted by Timber Mesa Fire personnel. Deputies found the body and got the subject back to shore, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses reportedly told deputies that the victim, who was identified by family members as Jeffrey Charles Fabian Jr., 31, of Concho, had been drinking prior to going into the lake. Other citizens said that Fabian was highly intoxicated and called 911 to report a disorderly subject. Witnesses attempted to keep Fabian from going into the lake due to his level of intoxication and concerns that he could drown. They were unsuccessful in their efforts, and Fabian entered the lake by the boat dock and went under water.

The body was transported to the medical examiner’s officer in Flagstaff to determine the exact cause of death.
