Colleen Kay Berg (née Crist), 66, of The Dalles, Ore., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 30, 2017. Services are pending at this time, with arrangements under the direction of Anderson’s Tribute Center Celilo Chapel in The Dalles.
She was born to Charles and Betty Crist on Dec. 3, 1950, in Portland, Ore. She grew up as the youngest of three children. She graduated from Pleasant Hill High School, Pleasant, Calif., in 1970 and from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in Early Childhood Education.
Colleen married Merlin F. Berg Jr. on June 9, 1973, and the couple had two children.
Colleen was a beloved teacher who taught many grades in her tenure from a one classroom school in Montana, to fifth grade at Hulet Elementary School in Holbrook, fourth grade in The Dalles and Early Childhood Development at the local community college.
Survivors include her husband, Merlin F. Berg Jr.; her son and his wife, Kyle and Amanda Berg of Phoenix; her daughter, Katie Berg of The Dalles; her mother, Betty M. Harry of Antioch, Calif.; her sister and husband, Charlene and Marty Ryan of Antioch; her aunt, Maxine Horton of Woodburn, Ore.; as well as her cousins, three nieces, a nephew, three great-nieces and two great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Crist; “Papa” Orville Harry; her brother, David Crist; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Crist.
