The Winslow Bulldogs will host the Payson Longhorns on Friday, Oct. 13, at Nasser Stadium. Winslow’s loss to Blue Ridge makes a win over the Longhorns important. The Longhorns lost to the Snowflake Lobos 28-7 last Friday, which left them with a 1-6 record. That loss damaged Winslow’s seeding for a state playoff and may have cost them an opening round home playoff game.
The Bulldogs and the Longhorns have had only two common opponents in the season. Payson defeated the Coconino Panthers 16-14 for its only win of the season. The Bulldogs defeated Coconino 24-14 in their first really close game at Flagstaff. Payson lost to Snowflake on Friday 28-7, while Winslow had lost to the Lobos 54-28 in Nasser Stadium two weeks ago.
Payson still has Blue Ridge to play next and Holbrook to finish the regular season. The Longhorns lost to Show Low 41-22 earlier in the season. Winslow lost to Blue Ridge 42-0 and still has both Holbrook and Show Low to play in its final two games of the regular season.
The Bulldogs badly need a win over the Longhorns and should be favored but will need to break their sudden losing streak to secure a playoff berth and any hope of a home playoff game.
