Boys seedings set, Blue Ridge and Winslow make top seeds

The Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) had announced the seeding for the 3A Conference State Championship Tournament. There are eight teams that have first round byes and 16 teams that must play in the first round to quality to play one of the teams with a first-round bye.

In the boys’ tournament there are four teams from northern Arizona with first round byes. They include top seeded Blue Ridge, second seeded Winslow, fifth seeded Snowflake and sixth seeded Chinle. Other teams in the group with a first-round bye are third seeded Casteel, fourth seeded Valley Christian and seventh seeded Florence.

Other teams from northern Arizona include Window Rock and Tuba City, which must meet for the right to meet Blue Ridge in the second round. Then Page, which must meet Kingman for the right to meet Sabino in the second round. Show Low must meet Empire for the right to meet Snowflake in the second round and Holbrook must meet American Leadership Academy for the right to play Chinle in the second round.

Other first round games include Yuma Catholic and Safford for the right to meet Valley Christian in the second round, Wickenburg and Northwest Christian for the right to meet Casteel in the second round, Sahuarita and Globe for the right to meet Florence in the second round, and Coolidge and Fountain Hills for the right to meet Winslow in the second round.

In first round games Tuba City and Page will host their contests. Holbrook will play American Leadership Academy at Gilbert.

The first round games will be played tonight (Wednesday, Feb. 14) and the second-round games this Saturday, Feb. 17. The quarter finals will be played on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Prescott Valley, the semi-finals on Friday, Feb. 23 at Gila River Arena and the Championship Game there on Monday, Feb. 26.
