The Arizona Department of Public Safety has made an arrest in connection with the Dec. 21 head-on collision that claimed the life of a 6-year-old girl and sent the four people in both vehicles to the hospital. Giovany Avila-Bejar, 20, was charged with second-degree murder, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal damage and three counts of aggravated assault.
According to DPS, Avilar-Bejar was driving a Subaru passenger vehicle eastbound on I-40 in Joseph City when it went off the road into the median area, then exited onto the westbound lanes of traffic, colliding head-on with a GMC pickup truck, which held the girl and two adults.
He was booked into the Navajo County Jail.
